Tuesday is the day residents of Arden Hills, Shoreview and Mounds View can learn about a construction project that will bring a roundabout to County Road I on the site of the former Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant (TCAAP), which was constructed between 1941-1942 to manufacture munitions for American and Allied forces during World War II

This summer, Ramsey County will build the roundabout and make improvements to County Road I, Rice Creek Parkway, and Old Highway 8 in anticipation of traffic growth related to the Rice Creek Commons development.

The project includes removal of the on-ramp from County Road I to I-35W northbound as well as extension of Old Highway 8 to the south to the new County Road H interchange. The ramp from County Road I to northbound I-35W will be removed in preparation of MnDOT's I-35W Managed Lanes project, which is tentatively scheduled to begin in summer 2019.

Other highlights:

• A new three-lane road and off-road trail connecting County Roads H & I
• Removal of the on-ramp loop at County Road I and I-35W
• Storm drain, sanitary sewer and water main improvements
"Connecting County Roads H & I will provide smooth flowing access to I-35W and the Rice Creek Commons development. The addition of a trail will allow pedestrians and bicyclists safe, off-road connection to both county roads," according to a Ramsey County news release.

Ramsey County purchased the property in April 2013 is working to transform 427-acre site into a residential, commercial and retail area. The open house will be held from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Ramsey County Public Works in the Marsden Room, 1425 Paul Kirkwold Dr, Arden Hills.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
