Ramsey County Board approves bonding wish list

October 12, 2013 at 9:34PM

The Ramsey County Board last week agreed to seek $36.8 million in bonding for six projects during next year's legislative session, including $15.6 million to redevelop roadways near the former munitions plant in Arden Hills.

That request — to improve highways and intersections near the county-owned Twin Cities Army Ammunition Plant site, being cleared for redevelopment — would be the first installment in the county's plan to obtain $35.2 million in state bonding for the roadwork. County officials say that private development and property taxes will recoup the public investment.

The other projects for which the county is seeking state funds: $10 million to design and build rail lines between St. Paul and Hastings; $5 million to redesign and improve Interstate 694 in Shoreview; $2 million to design and build the Battle Creek Winter Recreation Area in St. Paul; $2 million to design the Rush Line transitway; and an estimated $200,000 for historic preservation work at the Landmark Center in St. Paul.
