What's better than enjoying a beautiful late-summer sunset on the roof of Solera with a sweeping view of downtown? Doing so while enjoying Spanish wine tastings and a fashion show by Elsworth Menswear.

That was the case with the "Raise on the Rooftop" benefit for Children's Home Society & Family Services (CHSFS).

It was a grown-up party, but the purpose was definitely not lost on anyone.

"As adults, we're responsible for the children of the world," said Madonna King, president and CEO of CHSFS. The organization has been around for 120 years, helping orphaned kids find homes. It continues to support children through early-childhood care and education, counseling and therapy, and adoption services.

As for the rooftop affair, it seemed as if everyone was having even more fun than on a typical night out because of the purpose behind the party. Patti Meier, CHSFS board member and chairwoman of the event, reminisced with fellow committee member Ted Jokerst about the original idea.

"We're all out anyway, so why not meet up for the kids?" she said.

Indeed.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
