KANSAS CITY, MO. – There were consequences of Saturday's rained out game between the Twins and Royals.

Steady rain on Saturday led to the game being postponed. It will be made up at 7:35 p.m. on July 1 as part of a day-night doubleheader.

Because of the rainout, the Twins have clinched a winning road trip. They head into Sunday's series finale with a 3-1 mark on the trip, which comes after the Twins went 2-7 during their last homestand.

It also means that the Twins have a chance to finish with a winning month of April, at 12-11, if they can win on Sunday. Twins righthander Phil Hughes will start opposite of Royals righthander Jason Hammel.

That pushes righthander Ervin Santana back to Tuesday, when he will start the first game of a three-game home series against Oakland. Lefthander Hector Santiago and righthander Kyle Gibson will follow Santana. Santiago will make his first start after attending funeral services for his grandmother on Sunday.

Santana, at 4-0, had a chance to become just the second Twins pitcher ever to go 5-0 in April, but the rainout takes away that opportunity. Brad Radke, in 2001, remains the only one to do it.

Umpire update

Home plate umpire C.B. Bucknor was taken out of the game in the eighth inning Friday when a foul ball off Miguel Sano's bat came straight back and hit him squarely in the mask. Bucknor passed initial concussion protocols but was scheduled for more tests on Saturday.

Bucknor's condition on Saturday remained unknown, but Clint Fagan flew into town on Saturday to work in place of Bucknor for the remainder of the series.

Etc.

• The Twins will enter Sunday's game with a five-game winning streak against the Royals, their longest against Kansas City since 2011.

• Sano is 8-for-12 over his last three games with two home runs and six RBI.
