The Northeast will dodge a bullet today. Often, when a storm forms along thecentral Atlantic coast this time of year with fresh cold air to the north, there is a major snow event. That won't happen this time, though. The storm hasto head out to sea rather that turn up the coast, and snowfall will belimited. In the longer term, another storm will swing a big batch of rain into thenortheastern part of the country later in the weekend. The rain will be beginin the mid-Atlantic Sunday, then spread to New England Sunday night and Monday.

Northern New England could get ice instead.

Following the wet period, a noticeable turn to colder weather will occur acrossthe Northeast next week.
