Most memorable moment as a high school athlete? Achieving my goal to make all-state last year. I was told by so many people to "not have your hopes too high ... " And I decided that I would make top eight, no matter what. I couldn't stop smiling while I was on the podium.
First memory of diving: Standing on the 3-meter springboard, thinking "There's no way I can jump off of this." And I got fifth at nationals on 3-meter this past summer!
Why the nickname Red? I have red hair and when I used to practice with the U of M team, they called me Little Red. I graduated from to just plain Red around eighth grade.
Diving is ... exhilarating. It's a huge rush to get up on the board and be nervous to do a dive for the first time. It's never boring.
To prepare for a meet I ... dance with my teammates. My co-captain, Megan George, and I dance before and during meets, and we look absolutely ridiculous.
One small tip before a big meet: There's no use dwelling on the bad dives.
Have you ever been scared while diving? It's always a bit nerve-wracking when you know that a dive is going terribly wrong. There's a moment of panic that makes all of your muscles tense and make the smack so much worse.
