Brown, a defenseman committed to Minnesota, led Blaine to the championship game of the Class 2A state tournament.
Q: I was told a Blaine U-10 girls' hockey team forfeited its game to be at your championship game. [Blaine alum and current NHL player] Matt Hendricks sent a congratulatory e-mail. What was it like receiving all this support?
A: The support from the community was unbelievable. I get a little emotional thinking about it, they way everyone has reached out. It's amazing and we're very thankful for it.
Q: Have you had a chance soak in winning the Herb Brooks Award?
A: It's incredible. It's such an honor to even have my name in same sentence as a guy like Herb Brooks.
Q: What moments on this state tournament run are burned into your memory?
A: Honestly, the entire experience with my team. We actually went mini-golfing at Mall of America before the championship game and that was one of the highlights. And personally, I'll remember my goal against Hill-Murray.
Q: Will you be running track this spring before heading to the Gophers?
A: Yes, I'll continue to run track, the 400 and 800. I think it's important to do something other than hockey that's competitive.
