QUICK Q&A ANNA VAN WYK EAGAN, SOPH.Cross-Country

Van Wyk helped Eagan to a ninth-place finish in the Class 2A girls' cross-country state meet a year ago. She also runs track for the Wildcats.

The best movie I've seen in the last year? "The Amazing Spider-Man."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... "I Won't Give Up" by Jason Mraz; "Payphone" by Maroon 5; "Ours" by Taylor Swift.

Three words or phrases my friends or teammates might use to describe me? Organized, helpful, random.

What are your goals for the 2012-13 school year as an athlete? My goal for cross-country is to improve my times from last year. For track, I hope to go to state again in the 4x800.

What are you working on in the offseason? Getting my speed up for the end of a race, and I am also trying to run lots of hills ... very fun.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... exhausted.

What is your favorite meal before a meet? PASTA! Penne and bow tie noodles are the best.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? I try to get a lot of my homework done during school, and sometimes at meets if I can actually focus.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? The players would design their own uniforms.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... earning money to start my own bakery.

Do you have a secret talent -- and if so, what is it? Well, I can't lick my elbow or anything, but I can play the guitar.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? My former coach told me to "Just look at the sky and tell yourself, 'It's a beautiful day'" whenever you think you can't finish a workout, and it always helps me think more positively.
