Luke Johanns has his sights set on a return trip to the Class 1A boys' swimming state meet. The St. Thomas Academy junior finished fifth in the state in the 100-yard backstroke as a sophomore. Here is a closer look at Johanns:

The best movie I've seen in the past year? "The Fighter."

Three songs I never skip on my iPod are ... anything by Taylor Swift, Eminem and Katy Perry.

If you could change one thing about high school sports, what would it be? No early morning swimming at 5 a.m.

How do you balance school and sports during the year? School work is most important to my future, but swimming comes in a close second. I come home from swim practice around 6 p.m. and work on school work. I take a small break for dinner, and work until about 10 p.m.

Favorite pre-event meal? Big breakfast -- eggs, hash browns, bacon, waffles.

How did you get started in swimming? Started with swimming lessons at a young age then eventually club swimming. From there I joined the high school swim team.

At my first varsity practice, I felt ... excited and ready to perform at the varsity level.

Who is your biggest rival and why? Simley. They beat us last year in a dual meet, which was our first loss in a dual meet for 15 years. We have also been big rivals the years before.

In 10 years, I hope I'm ... a well-accomplished and successful person.

What is the best sports advice you ever received? Give 100 percent and never quit.
