The Lions are a bad franchise. Given their 1-24 record since 2008, they may be the worst team to ever assemble on a football field (yes, I know about the fledgling Buccaneers history). They are so bad right now, that Matt Millen's seven year run of 31-81 looks good. Hey, a .277 winning percentage is better than .040, right? Maybe Millen was a genius?
Since 2001, the Lions has won 2, 3, 5, 6, 5, 3, 7, 0, and 1 games, respectively. They have not made the playoffs since 1999 and have not won the division since 1993. Yes, they are bad.
Their quarterback, Matthew Stafford has completed only 53% of his passes, with 12 interceptions as opposed to his 5 touchdowns. Kevin Smith is on pace for about 850-900 yards as their top rusher, averaging a mere 3.3 yards per carry. Talented, but oft injured, Calvin Johnson has 24 receptions for 352 yards and a td to lead in the receiving department. Not good.
The Lions made the Rams look good this year. The Redskins' owner felt the need to apologize to his fan base after the Lions beat them. Something like .... "I am really sorry that we are so bad that Detroit beat us. I will spend as much money as I can so you all will forgive us for that.." But they will not.
True, Detroit has played the Vikings close in a few games recently. Maybe not this year with Brett Favre, but certainly last year with Frerrote and Jackson. They are awful, but they are a group of athletes who will work for their paychecks. If you turn the ball over, do not make plays, forget assignments, they can stay in the game. Ask Washington.
However, I do not expect Minnesota to struggle, they have played very well versus the Steelers and Packers the last two games. They are rested coming off the bye week. It should be easy. If Tweety Bird were here, he would shake his/her head and say, "Poor putty tat, when will they learn?" And Granny would get out the broom.
