Due to Thursday's snowstorm, the Metropolitan Council has called off its public meeting to discuss creating a "Downtown Zone" for Metro Mobility riders.

The meeting was to have been held at 5:30 p.m. at the Met Council's downtown St. Paul headquarters. It has been rescheduled to 5:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Met Council will extend the deadline for the public to submit comment in writing or phone until 3 p.m. Wednesday.

Metro Mobility riders currently pay $3 for a one-way trip during off peak hours and $4 during peak hours regardless of the distance they travel. The proposal being considered would allow riders who stay within downtown Minneapolis or St. Paul to pay $1 per ride.

Metro Mobility, a public paratransit service that provides door-to-door rides for those who are unable to use traditional buses and trains.

Rides that go outside either downtowns or between them would still be charged full fare.

Comments can be faxed to 651-602-1464, emailed to public.info@metc.state.mn.us or left on a voicemail at 651-602-1500.
