Public Allies Twin Cities Accepting Applications for AmeriCorps Member Position

For years, Public Allies has expanded the capacity of the nation's not-for-profit sector through its AmeriCorps Ally Apprenticeship Program. Public Allies launched this brand-new site in Minnesota in 2010 with operating partner Pillsbury United Communities. Through this program, we identify "Allies"— diverse, energetic, enthusiastic and ambitious young adults who want to make an impact in communities through performing direct service at organizations. During their 10-month Apprenticeship, Allies work four days per week, full-time, at "Partner Organizations", and also participate in weekly training as well as perform neighborhood service projects.

This year we are working with several organizations in St. Paul and Minneapolis to fill our Ally positions. Our next class is working with various organizations from Big Brothers & Big Sisters, and American Red Cross to Brian Coyle Community Center in Minneapolis. Other Partner Organizations include: Bush Foundation, Lighthouse Academy of Nations, and People Serving People among others.

The desired Public Ally AmeriCorps Member will perform the duties required to support the goals and needs of the Partner Organization they are placed with. Partner Organizations serve a wide range of populations. The Public Allies approach is asset-based, community-centered and participant-driven. The services provide comprehensive, coordinated sets of interventions, through the provision of direct services or capacity building, to improve social/economic conditions in the community

The Public Allies Twin Cities program offers a living stipend of $1,500.00 per month for ten months. Upon successful completion of the program, Allies receive an educational award of $5,550.00. We provide young leaders of the Twin Cities with great opportunities in Non-Profit Leadership.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
