Prosecutors target immigration service

Nevada man's company scammed immigrants, charges allege.

The owner of a Nevada company that promised help processing immigration paperwork is facing criminal charges almost a year after Whistleblower wrote about the operation. Charles Doucette, owner of Immigration Forms and Documents, was charged last week with conspiracy, criminal racketeering and obtaining money under false pretenses in the course of a technological crime, according to the Nevada attorney general's office.

Last April, I wrote about a Minnetonka woman who paid the company $1,010 to process her daughter-in-law's paperwork because she thought she was paying the federal government's fee. Prosecutors claim that employees of Doucette's company impersonated federal workers with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services. Immigration Forms and Documents was one of many business names used by the company Telestaffing, including Immigration Forms Processing Center, Immigration Forms and Services, USA-Helpline.info, and Immigration Helpline.

Carol VanOrnum said she was able to resolve her situation with Doucette last year. Her daughter-in-law and her son's stepchildren were also able to get green cards.

"I was one of the lucky ones," she said.
