Minneapolis firefighters have been battling a fire at a construction site in the Chain of Lakes area for more than three hours Tuesday.

In a news release, the department said fire crews were sent to the 3900 block of Upton Avenue S., between Lake Harriet and Bde Maka Ska, at 3:31 p.m. for an under-construction home with heavy smoke and fire billowing out. Popping sounds were also audible.

A large amount of fire and reports of possible propane tanks and gasoline inside the home forced firefighters to evacuate the building and attack the flames from the outside, the release said. Crews used an aerial ladder water tower to help fight the blaze.

Additional fire crews were called in, and a Metro Transit bus arrived to provide temporary shelter for neighboring residents and firefighters.

Crews were still battling the fire as of 6:30 p.m. No injuries have been reported.
