A repeat sex offender has received a lengthy federal prison term for targeting a teenage girl in a Duluth park and sexually assaulting her numerous times for months while furnishing her with gifts.

Dillon Alvan Reyna, 33, of Hermantown, Minn., was sentenced Wednesday in U.S. District Court in Duluth to 22 years in prison after pleading guilty to coercion and enticement of a minor.

Judge Jeffrey Bryan’s sentence was near the bottom of federal guidelines, which called for Reyna to receive a term of anywhere from 21¾ to 27¼ years in prison.

“A repeat sex offender in his 30s targeted and picked up a vulnerable child from a Duluth park —a child who had already endured abuse,“ Acting U.S. Attorney Joe Thompson said in a statement. ”We will not allow offenders to turn our parks and neighborhoods into hunting grounds for children.”

The U.S. Attorney’s Office pointed out Wednesday that Reyna was sentenced in February 2023 in St. Louis County District Court after pleading guilty to third-degree criminal sexual conduct in connection with assaulting a woman he met on social media. Judge Sally Tarnowski set aside a 10-year term and put Reyna on probation for three years.

According to prosecutors:

In October 2022, Reyna met the girl when she was under 16 and a victim of prior sexual abuse.

For months, Reyna gave the girl gifts and drove her places, acts that were conditioned on her sexual cooperation.

He sometimes used force during the assault and video-recorded the acts without the girl’s knowledge.

The abuse came to an end when law enforcement tracked the girl to Reyna’s apartment building. When confronted by law enforcement, Reyna claimed he didn’t know the girl.

Reyna directed the girl to lie to police about the assaults, but she disclosed the abuse to law enforcement.

From jail, Reyna told an associate to delete various social media accounts in an effort to cover up his crimes.

Once Reyna finishes his prison time, he will be on supervised release for 15 years.
