Prison for man who fought Brooklyn Park cop in chilling video

A 25-year-old man whose fight with a Brooklyn Park police officer was captured in a chilling 9-minute dashcam video has been sentenced to several years in prison.

Lance C. Carr of Brooklyn Park was sentenced last week in Hennepin County District Court after jurors convicted him of assaulting a police officer.

With credit for time served since his arrest, Carr will spend at least six years in prison before fulfilling the remainder of his 10-year term on supervised release.

Carr's confrontation late at night on Nov. 29 with officer Sean Hyman was recorded on the squad car's video camera.

The footage showed Hyman fighting for his life as he is repeatedly punched in the head, then placed in a chokehold.

"Every time I watch it, I think the officer is going to die," Brooklyn Park Mayor Jeffrey Lunde said last month.

Instead, backup officers arrived, tackled Carr and used a Taser to subdue him.
