Primer will examine Minneapolis school financing

January 20, 2013 at 1:43AM

A primer to walk Minneapolis parents and others through the process by which school-funding decisions are made has been scheduled for Jan. 30.

The session will explore the sources of school funding and how Minneapolis Public Schools sets priorities, as well as how much control principals have over budgets, according to sponsor AchieveMpls, a nonprofit group that supports district activities.

The session will be held at 6:30 p.m. at Washburn High School, 201 W. 49th St. To register, go to www.tinyurl.com/a25o87r.

Some school board members have advocated revamping budgeting to shift more money to schools where students have the greatest difficulty learning, but the board has taken no concrete steps in that direction.
