Priceless proms

Ever After Gowns is holding its annual boutique event today at Richfield High School for select area students to shop for free prom dresses and accessories with a personal shopper.

Guidance counselors at seven local high schools worked with the nonprofit Ever After Gowns to choose 300 students based on financial need and merit, according to Amie Hoffner of Ever After Gowns.

The Twin Cities organization, which donates prom gowns, has partnered with DonateMyDress.org, a national campaign encouraging teens to donate formal dresses and accessories to high schoolers in need. Teen girls collectively spent more than $2 million last year on prom dresses, according to a Hearst Teen survey, at an average of $234 per dress.

DonateMyDress.org is part of the Hearst Teen Network that owns the magazines CosmoGIRL! and Seventeen. For more information, check www.everaftergowns.org or www.donatemydress.org
