Rallying from funding woes last year, the World Press Institute has awarded fellowships to 10 international journalists who will visit the Twin Cities this summer.
The nonprofit group, which aims to build understanding between Americans and foreign journalists, will host reporters, news editors and online journalists for an eight-week program that will allow them to experience the American free-press system through projects such as covering the Republican National Convention in St. Paul.
This year's fellows cover everything from political conflicts in Zimbabwe to economics in China, according to a news release from the group.
Problems with funding and sponsors prompted the Twin Cities group to cancel its 2007 program. The organization has offered fellowships to more than 500 journalists since 1961.
