Prep roundup: Picht's goals spark Tartan

Tartan scores late, often to topple Henry Sibley • TARTAN 5, HENRY SIBLEY 2: Four unanswered goals, including a three-goal third period, were the difference Saturday afternoon. Jake Picht scored a pair of power-play goals in a span of less than one minute before Michael Friberg closed out the scoring some eight minutes later. Mike Winberg added a pair of assists for Tartan.

• BENILDE-ST. MARGARET'S 8, HIBBING/CHISHOLM 0: The Class 2A, No. 6 Red Knights scored three times in the first 8 minutes, 20 seconds, and went on to shut out the Bluejackets in nonconference play. Senior foward Grant Besse scored two goals, giving him 129 in his career and moving him into 12th place on the state's all-time list. Junior forward Nate Meyer also scored two goals, the second shorthanded, for Benilde-St. Margaret's. Andrew Sprang and Paul Lundberg combined for the Red Knights' first shutout of the season. They teamed up to make 24 saves.

• CHISAGO LAKES 4, ST. LOUIS PARK 1: Senior defenseman Justin Bye scored two goals, the first igniting a three-goal second period, as the Wildcats beat the Orioles in the North Suburban. Chisago Lakes trailed 1-0 after the first period.

• TOTINO-GRACE 8, ACHIEVER ACADEMY 1: Senior forward Derek Lodermeier scored three goals and assisted on three more as the Class 1A, No. 3 Eagles routed Achiever Academy.

• WAYZATA 4, STILLWATER 0: Sophomore forward Matthew Freytag had two goals and one assist, leading the Class 2A, No. 4 Trojans past the Ponies in nonconference play. Wayzata senior goaltender Aaron Dingmann made 15 saves for the shutout.

Flug, Roseville roll • ROSEVILLE 4, STILLWATER 1: Gopher recruit Kate Flug scored back-to-back goals less than 2 minutes apart in the second period, breaking a scoreless tie and leading the visiting Class 2A, No. 6 Raiders past the Ponies in the Suburban East. Flug also assisted on Roseville's fourth goal in the third period.

• DULUTH 5, TOTINO-GRACE 3: Each team tallied a three-goal period, but only Duluth could capitalize otherwise with a single tally in the first and third periods. Alexia Klaas, with two goals and three assists, had a hand in all of Duluth's goals, while teammate Claudia Gagnon added two goals and two assists. Allison Parnell was the sole Eagle with multiple points (two assists).

• BLAKE 5, ORONO 5 : Dani Cameranesi had a hat trick for Blake, while Emily Knight had three points for Orono as the teams skated to a tie. Orono goalie Casey Hartfiel was peppered with 46 shots in the game, turning away 41.

• HILL-MURRAY 2, LAKEVILLE SOUTH 2: It was a tie in pretty much every sense of the word, as the teams tied not only in goals, but shots on goal and penalty minutes. No single skater accounted for more than one point, as Lakeville South's Claire Walenta and Hill-Murray's Alexys Woodward each turned aside 23 of 25 shots.

Richfield takes OT thriller • RICHFIELD 94, ST. PAUL JOHNSON 92 (OT): Richfield frittered away an eight-point halftime lead over the Class 3A, No. 5 Governors before rebounding to win in overtime. Richfield was paced by DeShawn Jones' 43 points; Johnson was led by Quashingm Smith-Pugh's 18.

Hornets stifle Washburn • EDINA 60, MINNEAPOLIS WASHBURN 27: The Class 4A, No. 8 Hornets held the Millers to nine points in the first half and cruised to a nonconference victory. Edina led 35-9 at the intermission. Hornets senior guard MC McGrory nearly matched the Millers' output, finishing with 23 points. Minneapolis Washburn didn't have anybody in double figures.
