Maybe Tyler Nanne isn't as unlucky as he once thought. Maybe luck was just waiting for the right moment.
"I'm kind of an unlucky guy," said Nanne, who had only seven goals and 27 points during the regular season.
The senior forward and Ohio State recruit was far from unlucky in the recently completed state tournament, scoring four goals — three in the first period — in the Hornets' 6-1 Class 2A quarterfinal victory over Stillwater on Thursday.
He didn't stop there, however. He showed off his passing skills with four assists in the Hornets' 8-2 rout of Lakeville North in championship game, helping Edina to its second consecutive Class 2A championship and third in five years, a testament to team depth.
"The coaches had high expectations for the young sophomores and freshmen — everyone," Nanne told the Star Tribune on Saturday. "I feel like we all contributed to this state title."

Two ACL surgeries over the past three seasons have not held the senior guard back. In two Class 2A, Section 4 playoff victories last week, she reached the 1,000-point mark for her career in an 87-14 rout of Community of Peace and followed with 25 points as the Eagles outlasted St. Agnes 65-60 in overtime.

The four-year varsity veteran doesn't dominate the stat sheet, but his leadership is invaluable. Goldschmidt had 26 points and 11 rebounds in two games, helping Maranatha to the Class 1A, Section 4 championship. "It's his recognition of the flow of the game that is his biggest asset," coach Jeff Wall said.
