PETER COLBY
Edina • hockey
Eden Prairie senior Jack Jensen played youth hockey in Edina and faced several former teammates in Saturday's Class 2A state championship game.
He said of senior wing Peter Colby: "He's a grinder-type player and hard to play against. He's always in your face."
Now Colby always will be part of Edina hockey lore. He sealed the Hornets' 13th state championship by scoring twice in a 3-2 victory, including the overtime winner.
"When you look at the history of the state tournament, those big goals are scored by different guys at different times," Edina coach Curt Giles said. "Peter has scored goals for us. So, it's not a surprise."
Maybe a little. Colby's two goals gave him nine for the season, sixth among Edina skaters. He last scored in the regular-season finale. None of this was lost on him in the aftermath of his biggest game.
"I was in the right place at the right time," he said. "So many people gave me the opportunity I got tonight. All the credit goes to my teammates."
