Peters could make season debut tonight

There is a chance Lynx forward Devereaux Peters, who had a procedure done on her left knee May 7, could make her season debut tonight against San Antonio at Target Center. The game starts at 7 p.m.

Peters, who has dealt with multiple knee surgeries before, is a veteran at recovery, and this one has gone very quickly. Guard Monica Wright, who had a similar procedure done in late April, is a little bit behind Peters in her recovery. But Wright, too, appears close; she took part in warmups tonight.

"She's dressed," Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve said of Peters. "She could be available for a couple minutes [of playing time]. I'm not sure how I feel about it, because I haven't seen her enough. I don't want to rush her back."

There are very specific situations that could prompt Reeve to put Peters into the game. The main idea is to get her into some action for a short time to boost her confidence in the knee.

"I don't want to put her in a crazy part of the game," Reeve said. The idea, Reeve said, is to get Peters in, have her run the floor, get a rebound, set a pick, and then get her out of the game.

Whether or not Peters gets in the game tonight, there is a very good chance her playing time will expand Sunday in San Antonio.

--San Antonio, finally healthy, is a much improved team over last season. And that is the norm in the Western Conference, where improved health has made the six-team conference much deeper than a year ago.

"To be the best in the West you will have to win 25, 26 games," Reeve said. "In the East you can do it by winning 21, 22 games. That's a testament to how hard every game is in the Western Conference."
