HOUSTON -- A few notes and tidbits before the Labor Day matinee in Minute Maid Park:

-- Joe Mauer is batting off a tee today in Target Field, and will take live batting practice tomorrow. So far, he's had no relapse, the Twins say, so he could come off the concussion disabled list this weekend.

-- Pedro Hernandez will start Tuesday's game here, unless they have no choice but to use him today, in a blowout or extra innings. It will be his eighth start of the year.

-- Kyle Gibson has been shut down for the year, after reaching 151 innings pitched this season. Said Terry Ryan, "we consider this season a success" for Gibson, who should have no inning restriction next year.

-- The Twins plan to announce September call-ups tomorrow, unless Rochester makes the playoffs this afternoon. Ron Gardenhire wouldn't say who will be on the list, though he said, "We need [Chris] Parmelee."
