Moore makes some history in Lynx victory over New York

Maya Moore made some history tonight, becoming the first player in WNBA history to score 30 or more points in four straight games. But she paid the price.

She had a big welt and five stitches above her right eye, thanks to a first-quarter collision with Seimone Augustus that left Augustus woozy; she had to go through a concussion protocol before being allowed back into the game.

"It's really kind of overwhelming," Moore said, a bag of ice on her head, after the game. "I'm not thinking too much, just out there playing, worried about helping my team win. It's awesome to be able to score so much."

The Lynx are now 4-0, and the biggest reason is Moore, who has made up for injuries that have sidelined Devereaux Peters, Monica Wright and Rebekkah Brunson. It has made up for some iffy defense. Saturday it made up for the Lynx being badly out-muscled in the paint.

"We've got the biggest Band-Aid in the history of the league in Maya Moore," coach Cheryl Reeve said.

Funny she said that on a night when Moore had a pretty big bandage on her eye.

Here are some other nuggets from the game:

--Rookie Asia Taylor had her best 16 minutes to date. She had 10 points and four rebounds off the bench, with all of them coming in the second half.

--Augustus had another strong game, hitting half her shots on the way to 18 points.

--After the game Reeve said center Janel McCarville struggled a bit with the defensive game plan. But credit another rookie, Damiris Dantas, for picking up some of the slack. Dantas had only four points, but she had eight rebounds and three steals tonight.

That's about it for now. The Lynx play at Chicago Monday in a 2:30 matinee in a matchup of the only two undefeated teams in the league. That game will be shown on ESPN2.
