The Twins optioned righthander Jeff Manship to Class AAA Rochester and recalled righthander Kyle Waldrop following Wednesday's 12-5 loss to the White Sox.
Manship yielded three earned runs in the sixth inning, raising his ERA to 10.97. Waldrop, who started the year on the disabled list with a strained elbow, has posted a 1.26 ERA in nine games for Rochester.
"Jeff's been kind of scuffling; I think we've all seen that," Manager Ron Gardenhire said. "All of his pitches are kind of blending together. He's got to get back to slowing the ball down, locating the ball a little bit better, so send him back down to get going. And Waldrop's back healthy, throwing the ball well. We'll see how he does up here."
Span's OK after collision
Denard Span said he hit the back of his head against the center field wall, when he jumped trying to catch A.J. Pierzynski's triple in the seventh inning.
"It's definitely a ball that I would like to get back and try to steal one from A.J.," Span said. "I just mistimed my jump and jumped into the wall."
It was a scary moment for the Twins because of the concussion issues he's had in the past. But when Manager Ron Gardenhire started to head to the outfield, Span waved him off.
Gardenhire let Span finish the inning but took him out before the top of the eighth, with the White Sox leading 10-2.
