Wow, not good. Another one-run loss for the Twins, and this time they lost Justin Morneau to another wrist injury.
Morneau's flight back to Minnesota won't land until mid-day on Tuesday, with the time change, so I'm not sure when we'll get the next update. Dr. Thomas Varecka probably will give him another MRI exam. So stay tuned.
* Manager Ron Gardenhire said Joe Mauer was available to pinch hit but would have needed a pinch-runner if he got on base. Mauer's left knee is sore from the foul tip he took late in Sunday's game, but he was warming up pitchers between innings and was on deck to pinch hit for Jamey Carroll when the game ended.
* Jared Burton appeared to tweak his groin during the eighth inning. Gardenhire and trainer Dave Pruemer went to check on him, but Burton stayed in the game, and Gardenhire later said the righthander was fine.
Burton has now made eight consecutive scoreless appearances, spanning 8 1/3 innings. Opponents are 0-for-24 with two walks and eight strikeouts off him during that stretch. Three more outs, and that's the equivalent of a no-hitter.
* Alexi Casilla had three more hits, raising his average to .300, and Danny Valencia had two hits, raising his average to .253. But Sean Burroughs is 2-for-17 (.118) on the season, and Trevor Plouffe is 4-for-33 (.121).
* Nick Blackburn tossed his first quality start of the season, meeting the minimum requirements -- six innings pitched, three earned runs allowed -- just like Jason Marquis did in Sunday's 7-4 victory over KC. As a team, the Twins have just five quality starts.
* The Twins are now 4-6 in one-run games. That's 10 of 22 games decided by one run. The first-place Indians are 6-1 in one-run games, and the Angels are 2-6. No other AL team has played more than eight.
