Anybody who has driven on University Avenue in northeast Minneapolis knows that it's going to be a bumpy ride. But things are going to get a whole lot smoother.

Next summer, the Minnesota Department of Transportation will resurface the busy road, also known as Hwy. 47, between Central Avenue and 27th Avenue NE. The department also will improve drainage and install pedestrian sidewalk ramps at intersections as part of the $2.5 million project.

Stakeholders can get a preview of the work that will begin in the summer of 2013 during an open house from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the East Side Neighborhood Services Building, 1700 NE. 2nd Street in Minneapolis.

During the open house, MnDOT staff will answer questions and present information on the project schedule.
