The Minnesota Department of Transportation will close a stretch of St. Anthony Avenue in St. Paul on Wednesday.

Starting at 6 a.m., St. Anthony Avenue will be closed between Pascal Street and Snelling Avenue for about one month.

During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Pascal Street to University Avenue to Snelling Avenue. Ramps to and from I-94 will remain open.

Truckers wishing to access westbound I-94 should follow the signed detour that uses northbound Snelling Avenue, University Avenue and Vandalia Street to bypass the closure, MnDOT said.

The closure is necessary so Xcel Energy can relocate power lines ahead of a MnDOT construction project that begins in May 2015. That project includes rebuilding the Snelling Avenue bridge over I-94.
