A woman fatally stabbed a 29-year-old man while two children were in the house in Blaine late Monday, authorities said Tuesday.

The killing occurred shortly before 9 p.m. in the home in the 8600 block of Davenport Street NE., two blocks east of Central Avenue and just north of County Road J, according to police.

The 30-year-old woman was arrested and booked on suspicion of second-degree murder. Police said in a statement that the man and woman "were known to each other."

Police Chief Chris Olson revealed little about the case Tuesday, citing the ongoing investigation. He said charges could come as soon as Wednesday.

Olson said the residence is home to either or both of the adults. He declined to specify how any of the people in the home were related to one another.

The man was stabbed in the chest and stomach, police said. Authorities have yet to disclose the circumstances leading up to the bloodshed.

The two children have been "placed at a safe location" by Anoka County child protection officials, authorities said.
