Police said Monday they've arrested a motorist who ran over and killed a woman in a Maplewood street after a dispute.

The female driver remained in custody Monday pending charges, Maplewood police said in a release.

Police named the driver, but the Star Tribune generally does not name suspects until they've been charged.

The incident occurred about 12:40 a.m. Monday on Londin Lane near Crestview Drive, where police and fire personnel located the woman in the road. She was declared dead at the scene, police said.

"A dispute of some type had taken place, possibly between the deceased and another person," a police statement read.

Police identified the victim as Alejandra Cervantes, 28, of St. Paul.

Maplewood police said further details would be released when they become available. They said the public is not at risk.

The state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is helping police in the investigation.

Correction: An earlier version had the wrong day of the incident.
