A car being chased by police crashed into a traffic light at a light-rail intersection in Bloomington Saturday, killing a 24-year-old female passenger.
The identity of the victim was not immediately released.
Bloomington police spotted the car, a Saturn, being driven "carelessly at a high speed" on American Boulevard, according to the State Patrol. When police attempted to stop the car, officials said, the driver took off and ran a red light at 34th Avenue, striking another car before crashing into a semaphore at the corner of the intersection.
The State Patrol reported that the driver of the Saturn, a 27-year-old man, was injured but not seriously. The driver of the second car was not injured.
Officials said the Saturn driver could face charges of criminal vehicular homicide, fleeing police and possession of a stolen vehicle.
Although no trains were involved in the crash, the incident temporarily halted light-rail service between the Mall of America and the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport around 2:30 p.m., according to Metro Transit.
