Police: Oklahoma man shot by officers suspect in 2 killings

OKLAHOMA CITY — A man who was shot and killed during a gun battle with police in Oklahoma City was a suspect in two homicides and the kidnapping of his 14-month-old daughter, authorities said Thursday.

Brandon Milburn, 37, was killed Wednesday in a shootout with police that began after a car chase across the city's south side, police said in a news release.

When the chase ended in downtown Oklahoma City, police say Milburn began firing at pursuing officers and that nine officers returned fire, killing Milburn. All nine officers have been placed on temporary administrative leave, said Police Capt. Daniel Stewart.

One officer, Zachary Barby, was struck by a bullet that was stopped by his ballistic vest. Barby was treated and released from a hospital.

Police say Milburn shot and killed his girlfriend, 23-year old Shatica Hixon, on Tuesday, then took the couple's 14-year-old daughter, prompting a statewide Amber Alert. The child was found safe with relatives in southern Oklahoma, police said.

While on the run from police, authorities say Milburn stole a truck from a business in south Oklahoma City. When an employee from the business, 34-year old Stephen Christopher Huskey, used a GPS device to locate the stolen truck, Milburn shot and killed him, police said.
