Police were investigating a possible homicide Saturday evening outside a small apartment building in Roseville.

Officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Terrace Drive at 5:24 p.m. and found a man lying in the grass just outside the apartment building, said Rick Mathwig, chief of the Roseville Police Department.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene, Mathwig said, and he apparently suffered multiple gunshot wounds.

Witnesses saw a white sedan rapidly leaving the scene, heading north on Pascal Street.

"We would like to talk to the people or persons in that car," Mathwig said, adding that there is "no reason to believe that anybody was at risk other than the victim."

The apartment building is southwest of the Hamline Shopping Center and Lake Josephine.

Scanner traffic indicated the victim was shot in the head and/or neck, but Mathwig said he couldn't say exactly where the victim was shot.

Police believe the shooting took place in the approximate area where the body was found, Mathwig said, which was a small grassy yard between a parking lot and front door of the building at 1420 Terrace Drive.

"We're not aware of anyone who witnessed the actual shooting itself," he said.

Mathwig said the shooting is being investigated as a homicide by Roseville police and the state Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.

Police don't have a suspect in the shooting and did not release information about the victim because family members were being notified.
