Police investigate sexual molestation in Uptown

April 20, 2016 at 10:49PM

Minneapolis police have issued a safety advisory after a woman reported that she was molested Sunday as she walked along a street in Uptown.

The woman had left a bar and was walking alone between 2 and 2:30 a.m. when she noticed a man riding a bike near the intersection of Lake Street and Colfax Avenue S. The man got off his bike and started following the woman and was holding onto her as they walked, police said.

The suspect claimed he was helping the woman because she was intoxicated. In the process the man reached under the woman's clothes and molested her, police said.

The suspect rode a dark-colored "street bike" with straight handle bars, police said.

Anybody with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Department's Sex Crimes unit at 612-673-3081 or the department's tip line at 612-692-8477. Anonymous tips can also be texted to 847411.
