The man who was discovered shot dead this week in a St. Paul park has been identified, authorities said Wednesday.

Jerome E. Hall Jr., 25, of St. Paul, was the victim of a fatal gunshot, said police, who are declining to say more about what they have classified as a "suspicious death."

Police officers found Hall with critical injuries on a baseball field near the Hazel Park Recreation Center shortly after 3 a.m. Tuesday. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

No arrests have been announced in the case. Authorities said they did not believe Hall's death represents a safety threat to the public.

An audio account posted on the Police Clips Facebook page indicated a caller heard two gunshots in the area of the 1800 block of Case Avenue and a woman screaming for help.

Police say their investigators are following up on leads and ask anyone with information about the death to contact the homicide unit at 651-266-5650.
