A St. Cloud woman faces a battery of charges that include obstruction of the legal process, possession of drug paraphernalia and theft after she allegedly struck a security officer who attempted to stop her for shoplifting, police said.

The security officer approached the suspect just after 4 p.m. Saturday outside the Shopko East store at 501 S. Hwy. 10. When confronted, the suspect, 45, began fighting with the officer and hit him in the face with an elbow. Police arrived and handcuffed the suspect, said Sgt. Jeff Oxton.

When police searched her purse, they found cosmetics that the culprit had allegedly taken from the store along with methamphetamine, several unpackaged pills of prescription medication, drug paraphernalia and hypodermic needles, Oxton said.

The woman was taken to the Benton County jail where she is being held to face felony charges of possession of controlled substances and four misdemeanors, police said.
