Police collected several items found by volunteer searchers Sunday at Keller Lake in Maplewood, where pieces of critical evidence had already been discovered in the disappearance and presumed death of Kira Trevino.
Police wouldn't identify the items. It's too early to tell if they are connected with or hold any value to the case, said St. Paul police spokesman Howie Padilla.
Last week at Keller Lake, searchers uncovered a plastic bag containing a bloody pillow, sports bra, shirt and sponge containing Trevino's DNA. The lake also was searched Tuesday after cadaver dogs indicated the scent of a body in the water, but nothing was found, according to a court document.
Trevino's husband, Jeffery Trevino, 39, has been charged with murdering his wife. Kira Trevino, 30, was last seen Feb. 21 leaving the Mall of America with her husband. Police have been chasing various leads since.

Brooklyn Park police investigate homicide
A man was found shot to death early Sunday after police were called to the 10000 block of Georgia Avenue N. to investigate a report of gunshots. Authorities have not released the name of the man they found dead in the home when they arrived about 1:30 a.m. Police said they don't believe the shooting was random and are investigating.

Brooklyn Center fire destroys apartments
A fire early Sunday in a Brooklyn Center apartment complex displaced about a half-dozen residents and destroyed six to 10 units, authorities reported. The cause is unknown, but investigators are checking reports from residents that some smoke detectors did not go off. The fire broke out after midnight Sunday at the Melrose Gates apartments in the 6400 block of Camden Avenue N. The American Red Cross and the complex owners were providing housing for the displaced residents. No one was injured.
