GAITHERSBURG, Md. — Police say a Maryland man was behind the wheel of a car that slammed into a Sam's Club wholesale store in suburban Washington, injuring three people, including a man who suffered a leg amputation.
Authorities say a car driven by 77-year-old Subinoy Mazumdar of North Potomac struck a woman about 1 p.m. Tuesday in the parking lot of the Gaithersburg store before crashing into the building, where the two men were hit.
Police say the man with the leg amputation, 76-year-old Dimas Chavez of Potomac, was flown to Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore. Another man, 33-year-old Thaan Buithuan of Boyd, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The woman, 31-year-old Sheila R. Orellana of Derwood, who was accompanied by two children, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
Police say Mazumdar wasn't injured.
The cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear.
