MADISON, Wis. — For the first time in days police haven't arrested any protesters in the Wisconsin Capitol rotunda.
State Department of Administration spokeswoman Stephanie Marquis says David Dexheimer of Monona took out a permit for the space Monday.
Dexheimer told The Associated Press his permit allowed up to three people to use a 10-foot-by-4-foot space on the rotunda's first floor balcony. It's unclear how DOA construed it to apply to the rotunda's ground floor, where most of the protesters gathered. Marquis didn't immediately return a follow-up email message seeking details.
Protesters have been singing songs against Republican Gov. Scott Walker in the rotunda almost daily since 2011. Capitol Police launched a crackdown on them last month for not having a permit.
The protesters contend they don't need a permit.
