Both directions of Hwy. 12 just east of Maple Plain are back open following a head-on crash that killed one person, authorities said.

Medina Police identified the deceased as Jamie Lee Whipperman, 24, of Plymouth. The driver of the truck was identified as Ali Reza Zare, 57, of New London, Minn.

The highway had been closed since 9:45 p.m. last night following a head-on crash involving a UPS truck with tandem trailers and a car, Medina Police said.

A preliminary investigation indicates that the semitrailer truck was heading east on Hwy. 12 when the passenger car heading west crossed the centerline and hit the semi-truck head on.

The driver of the car was ejected from the vehicle and pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi was transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The highway reopened just after 5 a.m. following an investigation by the Minnesota State Patrol and the Medina Police Department.
