Plymouth will soon have a new City Council member.
Last Tuesday, the council interviewed eight applicants and unanimously chose Jim Prom, who ran unsuccessfully for the council in 2008 and 2010. The council will formally vote to approve the appointment Tuesday. Prom will serve on the council from Oct. 8 until the end of 2014.
He is filling the spot vacated by Ginny Black, who resigned after retiring from her full-time job with the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. She was the longest-serving member of the council, representing the Fourth Ward for nearly 18 years.
Prom had challenged Black in 2010, but lost. In a statement, the council said he was selected based on his community involvement as past president of the Bass Lake Improvement Association and his previous runs for the council.
The other seven applicants for the open seat were Peter Bartling, Tawnia Johnson, Jennifer Leflar, Ryan Meehan, Tom Bengtson, Paul Bierhaus and Gary Goldetsky.
