Plymouth hires a new city manager

Plymouth is about to have a new city manager at City Hall.

Last week, the City Council unanimously approved the hiring of Dave Callister, the city's administrative services director, for the CEO-like position. He will replace Laurie Ahrens, the city's first female city manager. She is retiring July 12 after a decade leading Plymouth's staff.

The council interviewed Callister on June 24. He was the only one among 11 applicants the city decided to interview for the job.

Mayor Kelli Slavik said before the meeting that Callister has strong financial and management experience. Since 2012, Callister has overseen Plymouth's administrative services. Before that, he worked at Ehlers & Associates, a financial advisory company that works with cities. He also was Osseo's city administrator for 10 years and worked for Tonka Bay and Gaylord for a total of eight years.

The city will negotiate a contract with him that will be approved at an upcoming City Council meeting.
