BOSTON -- Trevor Plouffe and Ben Revere are both getting their first starts of the season tonight, as the Twins open a four-game series at Fenway Park.

The Red Sox will welcome them with knuckleballer Tim Wakefield. Neither rookie has faced Wakefield in a regular-season game, but they've both probably seen him in spring training.

Among the players on the Twins active roster, Denard Span (3-for-7) and Justin Morneau (7-for-19) have had the best success against Wakefield over the years.

Update: Gardy said Plouffe will be the regular shortstop, Alexi Casilla will be the regular second baseman and Michael Cuddyer will be the regular right fielder for a while here.

The manager wants Cuddyer to get settled in right field and hopes that will help get his bat going.

Jason Kubel can DH (especially now with Jim Thome on the DL) and play left field.

Luke Hughes can spell Danny Valencia at third base and also play some left field, Gardenhire said.

There wasn't much news on the injury front. Joe Mauer, Tsuyoshi Nishioka and Delmon Young are making progress, but it sounds like Mauer and Nishioka could be multiple weeks away from returning to the lineup.

Nishioka might be ready to begin a minor-league rehab stint next week, and Young is getting closer to doing that, but there is no timetable for Mauer.
