The Metropolitan Council is being presented this week with plans for two major new recreational trails stretching deep into Dakota County, one with links to Scott County.
Both are intended to hook up with one along the Minnesota River that would lead to others throughout the metro area.
A council committee on Monday will consider plans for:
• The Mendota-Lebanon Hills Greenway, or a segment of it starting at a town center project in Mendota Heights and leading through Inver Grove Heights and Eagan to Lebanon Hills Regional Park.
The estimated cost of the 8.5-mile route is nearly $13 million.
• The 20-mile Lake Marion Greenway, from the river in Burnsville through Savage and Lakeville to Farmington.
Major connections would be with Murphy-Hanrehan Park Reserve, Lake Marion and downtown Lakeville.
The cost of this trail is placed at $15.6 million.
