Plains and Eastern Storm Snowfall Map

A storm currently diving into the northern High Plains will continue totrack east-southeastward through the middle of the week, before racing off theMiddle Atlantic coast early Friday.The storm will produce an unusually large area of accumulating snow from thePlains to the Deep South and Northeast, as cold air remains in entrenchedacross the eastern two-thirds of the nation.

The heaviest accumulations of snow will fall across the Midwest later Wednesdayand into early Thursday, with a general 4-8 inches, which includes the Chicagoarea.

The combination of snow and blowing snow will greatly reduce visibility formotorists across the Plains and Midwest. Roads will be snowcovered.

A small accumulation of snow will also create slick conditions from Atlanta,Ga., to Charlotte, N.C., Thursday afternoon and evening.
