Pitt tops Georgetown • No. 3 PITT 70, No. 11 GEORGETOWN 54: DeJuan Blair knew he was not the main focus of the two dozen or so NBA scouts or the national television audience. The featured attraction was supposed to be college basketball's latest flavor-of-the-month, Georgetown freshman Greg Monroe.

In the second half, however, it was Blair who was thumping his chest while chants of "Let's Go, Pitt!" came from the upper deck from the thousands of fans who made the trip to the nation's capital.

"I played with something on my back saying, 'They're picking this young cat against me, and I'm not going to take it,'" Blair said. "I was always an underdog throughout my whole life. I think I showed a lot of people."

Blair had 20 points and 17 rebounds, and the Panthers (14-0, 2-0 Big East) never trailed as they dominated the Hoyas (10-2, 1-1) on the boards, in the paint and with their depth.

Rebounds: 46-21. Points in the paint: 48-22. Bench scoring: 14-2. Needless to say, those questions about the Panthers' early schedule -- this was their first game against a ranked team -- are now firmly put to rest.

"They were saying, 'Who did Pitt play?'" Blair said. "We came into Georgetown and showed them what we can do. They can't say nothing now."

• KANSAS 92, No. 14 TENNESSEE 85: Sherron Collins had 26 points and nine assists, and Cole Aldrich of Bloomington had 22 points and 10 rebounds to help the Jayhawks (10-3) beat the visiting Vols (9-3). Kansas took an early 16-point lead, then held off the Vols down the stretch for its 32nd consecutive victory at Allen Fieldhouse.

Poor shot selection and defensive breakdowns put Tennessee in a big hole early and the Vols never recovered, ending their three-game winning streak. It doesn't get any easier, either: The Vols face No. 16 Gonzaga on Wednesday in their final game before starting Southeastern Conference play.

Tyler Smith led the Vols with 21 points and Wayne Chism had 17 points and six blocked shots.

• No. 6 WAKE FOREST 94, BRIGHAM YOUNG 87: Jeff Teague scored 30 points and James Johnson 22 as the visiting Demon Deacons (13-0) held off the Cougars (11-2) to end the nation's longest home-court winning streak. The Cougars had won 53 in a row dating to a loss to Loyola-Marymount to open the 2005-06 season. The score was tied 85-85 with 2:03 left, but Johnson scored on a tip-in and sank two free throws and Teague sank two more free throws to give Wake Forest the victory. Jimmer Fredette scored 23 points for BYU, Jonathan Tavernari had 18 and Lee Cummard 17.

• ST. JOHN'S 71, No. 7 NOTRE DAME 65: D. J. Kennedy scored 20 points, including four free throws in the final 15 seconds, and had 10 rebounds as the Red Storm (10-4, 1-1 Big East) beat the visiting Fighting Irish (10-3, 1-1). The Red Storm ended a three-game losing streak by holding Notre Dame to one of its worst three-point shooting games of the season. The Fighting Irish went 4-for-17, including a 1-for-5 effort by long-range specialist Kyle McAlarney. Luke Harangody had 28 points and 14 rebounds for the Fighting Irish (10-3, 1-1), who had won four in a row.

Paris Horne had the assignment of guarding McAlarney, and was there every time the Notre Dame star turned around or went around a screen.

"I tried not to let him catch the ball and get off those easy shots he does," Horne said. "I just followed him and tried to get around every screen. He saw me a lot. I just did what I had to do."

• No. 22 XAVIER 84, VIRGINIA 70: B.J. Raymond scored 24 points and hit four of No. 22 Xavier's nine three-pointers as the Musketeers (11-2) beat the Cavaliers (6-5). "We know that when we've got our foot on somebody's throat, we've got to keep it there," Raymond said. "We can't think that the game is over."
