Pink Martini will need a new straw to stir the drink on July 30-31 at Orchestra Hall. Lead singer China Forbes needs to have vocal-cord surgery and is expected to take a year off to recover.

So the popular Portland, Ore., is using a series of substitute singers this summer. While two replacements have been named for late June and early July, the singer for the Minneapolis shows with the Minnesota Orchestra has not been announced.

These are actually rescheduled concerts from April when Forbes took a break hoping for her vocal problems to heal. Now, surgery will be required.
