Pike in the Metro

Work the deeper weedlines right now for Pike action.

For the most part I skipped the "opening weekend" excitement. I did get out a little on a smaller west metro lake for a little pike action late Saturday. All of the action we had was related to the deep weed edge and the fish reponded well to suspending minnow style baits worked agressively with a series of rips followed by a short pause. When the bite slowed we switched to a spinner bait "slow rolled" down the weed edge with an occasional rip and that prompted a number of bites as well. This is a pretty good one/two punch on early season pike here in town. Simply mix up the speeds and see what the fish are responding to the best. Bright and flashy colors seem to work the best and will pull fish from considerable distances in the clear spring water. Go get em........
