Adam Svensson, a 31-year-old Canadian with one PGA Tour victory, shot a tournament-record 60 Thursday morning to take the early lead in the 3M Open at the TPC Twin Cities.

Svensson made a 48-footer for eagle on the par-5 18th hole.

He had nine birdies on the day to break the tournament scoring record by two strokes.

“It was great. I had a great range session today. Just really putted amazing,” said Svensson, who won the RSM Classic in 2022. “I made a bunch of breakers. It was probably my best putting round I ever had, so I’m pretty happy.”

There have been 15 sub-60 rounds in PGA Tour history; Jim Furyk holds the record with a 58 at the 2016 Travelers.

Sam Stevens had 59 in his sights as he stood over his second shot on the par-5 18th, but put a 3-iron into the water.

“I was between clubs, three-wood and three-iron,” he said. Stevens scrambled for a bogey and a 62.

Heavy rains Wednesday left greens soft for the morning group and scores were low.

Chad Ramey was at eight-under 63; Brendan Valdes was another shot back; and Emiliano Grillo, Kurt Kitayama and Rickie Fowler had six-under 65s.
